PHOTOGRAPH EAGLES & OTTERS ON MULL
MORE INFORMATION
This photographic tour will be hosted on the magical Isle of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. Mull is widely recognised as ‘Eagle Island’ and is without question, one of the best places in the UK to see and photograph our largest raptor species, the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla).
We visit the Isle of Mull in early autumn, not only to maximise the warm tones and less harsh light, but also to avoid the dreaded Mull midge!
The White-tailed Eagle, otherwise know as the Sea Eagle or White-tailed Sea Eagle, is the 4th largest Eagle in the world, behind the Martial Eagle, Stellar’s Sea Eagle and American Bald Eagle, their wingspan can reach as much as 7.7 - 8 ft and they can weigh up to 5 kgs.
White-tailed Eagles were persecuted to extinction by humans, and prior to a successful reintroduction program in the late 1970’s, had last bred on the Isle of Skye in 1916. There are now estimated to be 150 pairs in Scotland.
As well as White-tailed Eagles, Mull is also home to Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers, Short-eared Owls and many other raptors. Mull has a healthy population of Golden Eagles, with an estimated 35 pairs calling the Isle of Mull home.
Another highlight on Mull is its Otter population. Otters thrive in both the freshwater and sea lochs and can be seen and photographed year round.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Isle of Mull is a wildlife photographer's paradise, offering an exceptional blend of rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Known as "Eagle Island" due to its thriving populations of golden eagles and white-tailed sea eagles, the island provides rare opportunities to capture these majestic birds in their natural habitat. Its rugged coastlines and serene lochs are home to playful otters, seals, and even dolphins, while the surrounding waters attract basking sharks and whales during the warmer months. Photographers can also encounter red deer roaming freely across the hills and seabird colonies nesting on nearby islands like Staffa. With its dramatic scenery, unspoiled nature, and seasonal variety, Mull is the perfect destination for capturing the beauty and wild spirit of Scotland's diverse wildlife.

NOTES
The fitness requirements for this trip are completely flexible and the reality is, there is very little walking required to photograph wildlife on the Isle of Mull.
The weather on Mull can be incredibly unpredictable and change with little notice. It is important that you prepare to experience ‘all seasons’, with the reality being, this can happen within a few hours!
That said, it is an indescribably magical place.
